Town Creek Water Treatment PlantTown Creek Water Treatment Plant
Macon Water Authority
Macon, GA

The Town Creek Water Treatment Plant project consists of a water storage reservoir and 60 mgd Water Treatment Plant on a 3,000 acre undeveloped site in north Bibb and Jones Counties, Georgia. The $116 million plant began operation in 2001. GEC was involved with the project from its inception, providing all geotechnical and construction quality control services for the project. GEC maintained an on-site laboratory on the project and had up to four technicians working on-site over a 2 year period. Special features of this project included the use of an extensive French drain system, site undercutting, rock contouring and blast monitoring, on-site batch plant inspection, reinforced earth wall construction monitoring, and metals inspection.
YKK ExpansionYKK plant
Dublin Construction Company
Dublin, Georgia

The YKK project consisted of a 225,500 ft2 addition to the existing YKK plant. GEC provided geotechnical and construction quality control testing services to the design-build contractor on this project. The project included cuts and fills on the order of 15 feet and was performed on a fast track basis. GEC had personnel on site to provide soil density testing services while providing the geotechnical services on the project. Special features of this project included the undercutting, stabilization, & filling of a wetland area as well as creation of a deep on-site detention pond.
Swift Spinning Mills
Osborne Company
Columbus, Georgia

This project consisted of a 500 to 600,000 ft2 manufacturing plant on a 92 acre greenfield site in Columbus, Georgia. GEC provided all geotechnical and construction quality control testing services for the project. Special construction considerations included site dewatering, undercutting, soil stabilization, and settlement monitoring of a large fill embankment. The facility is ultimately designed for a total of 1,000,000 ft2 of manufacturing space under roof.
Best Buy Distribution Center
Best Buy Company
Dublin, Georgia

The Best Buy project consisted of the fast track construction of a 700,000 ft2 distribution center on roughly 100 acres of undeveloped land in Dublin, Georgia. GEC provided construction quality control services to Best Buy on the project. GEC engineers recommended the installation of a successful french drain system. GEC also worked with the grading contractor in the blending of high plasticity and sandy soils to lower the plasticity. This significantly reduced the amount of undercutting and soil wasting necessary. Because this was a fast track project GEC technicians were onsite nearly around the clock to provide testing services. The project was completed in less than 12 months.
Quad Graphics Printing Facility
Thomaston, Georgia

The Quad Graphics project will ultimately include over 1 million ft2 of construction on a 200 acre greenfield site in Thomaston, Georgia. GEC personnel have been involved with this project from its beginning in 1989 and have provided Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, geotechnical, wetlands, septic system, fire protection water consultative, and construction quality control services. GEC has been involved during construction of the initial four phases of the plant construction and the plant now encompasses a total of 787,600 ft2. Up to three GEC technicians have been on-site at times during construction. Special project features included pre-loading of the roll storage area building pad, auger cast piles, wetland stabilization through the use of geogrids and the use of an HDPE liner for water storage.
The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Georiga Sports Hall of Fame
Georgia State Finance & Investment Commission
Macon, Georgia

The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame is a 43,000 ft2 facility located in downtown Macon, Georgia that was completed in 1999. It is dedicated to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the cause of sports in Georgia. GEC provided geotechnical and construction quality assurance services on this significant project. Special challenges at the site included the removal of old fill and foundations in this oldest part of the city.

Hall County - Candler Road MSW Landfill Hall County Landfill
HDR/WLJorden
Gainesville, Georgia

GEC provided complete Construction Quality Assurance Services during the construction of Cells 2 and 3 of this landfill. GEC worked with the design firm of HDR/WLJorden of Atlanta to represent the owner's interest during the construction of a pair of roughly 8 acre disposal cells. Features of the disposal cells included low permeability soil sub-base, GCL, and geomembrane liner components. The leachate collection systems utilize sand & geosynthetic components. GEC services included earthwork monitoring and testing as well as destructive & non-destructive testing of geosynthetic components. Unique features of this project included the placement of an underdrain system within the cell areas & the use of both natural and geosynthetic drainage materials in the leachate collection system.
