Lead Paint Inspection & Testing
Lead has been identified by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as the number one environmental pollutant that threatens public health in the United States. Regulatory liabilities can occur if manufacturers, building owners, facility operators, or contractors do not properly handle or dispose of lead-containing materials.
GEC has certified Target Housing & Child Occupied Facilities lead inspectors on staff. GEC’s lead surveys are performed in accordance with appropriate guidelines. Our process is designed to locate and identify all suspect lead containing materials throughout a building.
GEC can provide extensive lead surveys in adherence to Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidelines. Specialized lead surveys can also be designed to meet special client requirements. GEC provides assistance with Lead Operations & Maintenance Programs as well as remediation plans and oversight.
Congress, the EPA, OSHA, NIOSH, and HUD have all established numerous regulations and recommendations relating to Lead. Lead exposure can occur from manufacturing processes, construction processes, and environmental exposure to lead-contaminated soil, water, food, and dust. Lead compounds such as white lead and lead chromate were widely used as pigments in paints, and lead is commonly present in varnishes and primers.
Although the use of lead-based paint has declined over the years, most houses built before 1980 contain some lead-based paint.
