Engineering Technician

Reports to: Construction Services Manager
FLSA Status: Full time

Summary
Performs testing and inspection services including but not exclusive to soil, aggregate, concrete, asphalt and other construction materials.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads and understands project specifications, blueprints, and project plans.
  • Implements laboratory testing programs, and reports findings, results, conclusions and recommendations in technical reports.
  • Meets established project, budget and personal productivity standards on a regular basis.
  • Maintains time, activity and project records in a timely and accurate manner and makes copies available as required.
  • Communicates verbally and in written format with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a logical, concise courteous and professional manner.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions and safety rules and uses all appropriate safety equipment.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED necessary. College degree or experience preferred, but not necessary.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction reports, project plans, blueprints, and specifications. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, technical and construction experts, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to management staff, other technicians, or clients. Ability to speak effectively to clients and other employees of the organization. Fluency in written and verbal English language is required.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions (horizontal and vertical), percentages, complex areas, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and dimensional computations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a multi-faceted project environment. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and interpret regulatory laws and regulations.

Computer Ability
Basic aptitude with technological and mobile devices is necessary.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
A valid state driver’s license is required. NICET and/or ACI licensure preferred, but not necessary for initial employment.

The employee infrequently lifts and pushes wheelbarrow loads of concrete and concrete cylinders weighing up to 150 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, and the ability to clearly differentiate colors. Moderate off-site, overnight travel required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally traverses construction sites, is exposed to outside weather conditions, tight, constrained places and wet and/or humid conditions, moderate cold, and moderate heat. The noise level in the regular work environment is moderate but could be loud at times.

Valid Driver’s License and good driving record is required.
